Deakin arrives as Director of Football

Tuesday 13/12/2022

Hednesford Town can today confirm that following discussions with the board of directors Graham Deakin has joined the club as the Director of Football with Terry McMahon reverting to his original role as club secretary however he will retain his seat on the board.

Deakin, 35, began his career as a player with Walsall before moving on to have a career in non league as a player with Tamworth, Sutton Coldfield Town and Rushall Olympic.

He then moved into management with roles at Romulus as both first team manager and Academy Manager before joining Hednesford as Assistant Manager in 2020. A brief spell as joint manager at Worcester City followed however he retained a close friendship with the board at Hednesford and he has now moved upstairs to become part of the Board.

On Deakins appointment the board of directors said “ Deaks is well known in non league football, he understands the game both on and off the pitch whilst also having a strong ability to deal with budgets as well as having proven his ability to bring commercial opportunities to the club which is perhaps a side that people haven’t seen of Deaks. Having him on board gives us another person with true non league knowledge having been a player, manager, assistant manager and Academy manager which we know is something we need on board. We feel the appointment now has come at the right time as we look for a new manager and whilst it’s been a whirlwind 24 hours to bring Deaks on board we feel it is a very important addition to the board as we all believe we can get ourselves out of this predicament and making the right appointment as Manager is vital as we all know. We would like to welcome Deaks to the board of directors at Hednesford Town, in addition we want to thank Terry McMahon for remaining as Club Secretary and a member of the board as simply put this club could not function without all of his hard work and the 4 of us are determined to get the club back on track and where it needs to be, we now need everyone to pull together and we know that begins with us as a board”.

A further announcement in respect of the managers role will be made in due course.
