Glover appointed Pitmen Manager

Saturday 17/12/2022

Hednesford Town are delighted to announce the appointment of Pitmen legend Danny Glover as the clubs new manager.

Glover, 33, returns for a 4th time at the RACE Stadium, having began his career at Port Vale spending time out on loan at the likes of Salisbury, Rochdale and Stafford Rangers before joining Worcester City on a permanent basis in 2010. He then moved on to Nuneaton Town for a season before returning Worcester. Moves to Halifax and Bradford Park Avenue followed before his first spell with the Pitmen in 2014. Gloves then had time at Stockport and Telford before rejoining the Pitmen in 2016, another brief departure saw Glover move to Alsager Town and a permanent move to Nantwich Town before rejoining the Pitmen in 2019 where he spent 6 months as caretaker player/manager before departing to join Rushall Olympic for a fruitful 2 years. At the beginning of this season Danny joined Hanley Town but is now coming home for a 4th time as manager at Hednesford.

A statement from the board of directors said “firstly thank you to all the applicants for the role, Danny was a standout applicant with such vast non league experience as a player along with his ambition to move into management and his genuine love for this football club so we are delighted he has agreed to join the club. We know and Danny knows we have a big task to stay in this division however Danny isn’t someone who  shirks a challenge, the board are fully behind him and together we are going to do everything we can to get ourselves out of the current situation. Welcome back Gloves”.

On his appointment Danny said “I’m absolutely buzzing to be given the opportunity to come in and manage Hednesford everyone knows it means a lot to me and I’m really excited to be back. I was really impressed with what the owners had to say regarding the situation and the belief they, Terry and Deaks have that we can get out of this. To have the trust that has been placed in me to try and get us out of trouble and where we want to be it feels amazing for me. Obviously there will be a lot of pressure and everyone will have an opinion but I’m willing to embrace that. I know there are going to be good days and bad days as a manager but I feel I am ready. I honestly cannot wait to get started. Up the Pitmen!”.

Subject to FA Clearance Glover will take charge of his first game on Boxing Day as we visit local rivals and Danny’s former club Rushall Olympic where Danny will also be eligible for selection as a player should he choose himself to play.

A further announcement on Danny’s assistant manager will be made in due course.
