Leek Town v Hednesford Town

Friday 01/12/2023

On Saturday 2nd December Hednesford will make the 30 mile journey across the county to Leek for their latest Northern Premier League West Division game. Leek are in second place in the table with 29 points from their 16 games and a win could see them topping the table on Saturday night. Alternatively, a win for Hednesford could see them move out of the bottom two. Despite the 4-0 defeat to Clitheroe last week, The Pitmen didn’t lose any ground on the teams above them as seven of the bottom eight teams all lost.

The majority of Leek’s points have come at home this season with six wins and two defeats. The wins were against Widnes (1-0), Trafford (3-0), Nantwich (2-0), 1874 Northwich (4-1), Hanley (2-1), and Witton Albion (4-1) while the defeats came against Kidsgrove (2-4) and Avro (3-4). They’ve scored 21 goals in those six games and conceded 11 with their leading scorers in all competitions being Dan Trickett-Smith (14 goals), Rob Stevenson (12) Aaron Opoku (9) and Tom Carr (5). Strangely Leek have also used no less than four goalkeepers this season, starting off with former Hednesford loanee Joe O’Shaughnessy then Eric Merner and Matt Corran before the recent signing of former Hereford stopper Dino Visser.

Overall, their league record for this season is:  P 16 W 9 D 2 L 5 F 38 A 27 GD +11 Pts 29

Current form is P 6 W 3 D 0 L 3 F 13 A 14 GD -1 Pts 9
