Match Preview: Kendal Town (A)

Tuesday 12/03/2013

Match subject to a 2:30pm pitch inspection

On any other day, an away fixture versus a team who have lost their last seven matches in all competitions and sit third from bottom of the league would give Hednesford Town supporters the luxury of expecting a straightforward victory but, in the midst of a pressurised title race, The Pitmen will know that a professional performance and a victory are vital against Kendal Town tonight.

Saturday’s anguish at dropping two points in injury time against Matlock Town can be put behind Hednesford with a convincing win this evening and manager Rob Smith is happy that a game has come around so quickly.

‘Late goals happen, we have scored enough ourselves this season to know that, but we have to take Saturday on the chin. It is just important that we bounce back tonight and I’m glad we have a game so soon.

A victory tonight will set us up for North Ferriby on Saturday and if we win then as well, last week will be quickly forgotten, so we have to be positive.’

The Field have clearly struggled of late, losing their last three matches at home, but a statistic which probably guarantees a drab 1-0 is that, on average, over four goals have been scored in every game Kendal have been involved in this season.

Hednesford and their attack minded squad should relish playing against a potentially porous defence, but striker Neil Harvey is a fitness doubt and despite a superb cameo from the bench on Saturday, Nathan Woolfe is still not 100% fit also following a hamstring injury.

Captain Darren Campion and Jamey Osborne will play their final games before their suspensions rule them out of Saturday’s crunch game versus North Ferriby, so Asa Wright is also added to the squad for a fixture which, while lacking the glamour of a top of the table clash, is still absolutely vital to The Pitmen’s promotion aspirations.
