Match Preview: Histon (H)

Friday 21/02/2014

Hednesford Town look to restart their promotion push, after a disappointing two defeats curtailed what was a superb recovery from a patchy run of form over Christmas, when they welcome struggling Histon to Keys Park tomorrow afternoon.

The Pitmen won four out of five matches before losing away against Harrogate Town and at home to Solihull Moors in the past two weeks but manager Rob Smith stressed he has every belief that his squad can still finish in the top five and is positive that his players can play without the pressure of the run-in affecting them.

‘It is going to be difficult, we acknowledge that, but we are determined to finish in the play offs and we believe we will do it. I don’t think pressure during the last 12 matches applies to us; we are competing with big well-established clubs, a lot of whom have to deliver given the money they are spending. Our pressure comes from within because we have done so well that we desperately want to stay there.’

Hednesford’s opponents tomorrow have had their own struggles to deal with of late, having lost four in succession and the Cambridgeshire outfit have not won since 4th January. Included in that run was a dramatic 4-4 draw against current leaders North Ferriby United so they do carry a threat but The Pitmen faithful will be hopeful, even expectant, that their team can pick up the three points.

The Pitmen have no further injury concerns apart from the continued struggles of Jamey Osborne to rediscover his fitness following a hamstring injury over recent weeks.

The Non-League Paper have chosen tomorrow’s fixture as featured match in their edition on Sunday so a confident victory will send a further message out to the likes of Telford, North Ferriby, Brackley and Boston that there is still fuel left in the Keys Park tank for a tilt at the Skrill North play offs.
