Match Preview: Skelmersdale United (A)

Friday 21/10/2016

The Pitmen hit the road for the second time this week when they make the trip up to Uretek Stadium, the home of Skelmersdale United.

After suffering back-to-back defeats, Liam McDonald’s team will be looking to bounce back on Saturday against a side that fell to the bottom of the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League during the week – having picked up ten points from their 14 games.

The manager was taking nothing for granted though in the build-up to the game as he looks to try and break back into the top five.

He said:

“I’m looking forward to getting back into action on Saturday against Skelmersdale, although we know that it will be another tough game.

“Skelmersdale are currently bottom of the league, however I have had them watched and spoken to other managers in our league and they have told me how they put up a fight and keep going in all the matches they’ve played this season – with them being unlucky not to get more out of some of them.

“I’m looking forward to us putting in a good performance as the last two have been disappointing. Collectively we have dipped in terms of performance levels and people have said we may have been found out – but it was more down to the players not playing very well and not playing the football like we did at the start of the season.

“I think where we are shows that we aren’t a million miles away; the games we have lost have still been quite tight. I’m always confident with a good performance we can come out on top and put the last couple of games behind us.”

The manager will be without defender Jim Mutton who is suffering from concussion after picking up a head injury during the defeat against Barwell. Danny Glover will also face a late fitness test after picking up a back injury which was aggravated just a matter of hours before the game in midweek.

The game kicks off at the usual time of 3pm and we hope that you can make the trip to support the Pitmen – there are still spaces available on the Travel Club coach, phone Ken Leese (07935723290) to book a seat for £13.
