Match Preview: Grantham Town (H)

Friday 04/11/2016

Hednesford Town return home on Saturday for the second fixture in a week when we host Grantham Town at Keys Park.

The Pitmen will go into the game buoyed by the 4-1 victory over Sutton Coldfield Town on Monday evening as they look to consolidate their place in the top five of the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League.

Grantham, who are currently on a four game unbeaten run and have a striker in Felipe Barcelos who has scored eight goals in his last ten games, last visited Keys Park in February 2013 and are yet to taste victory here in their five visits so far.

Manager Liam McDonald was hoping that his side could build on their impressive victory on Monday evening.

He said:

“Tomorrow is going to be another tough game for us, against a Grantham side who are a typical Northern Premier League team. By this I mean that they will beat the teams at the top of the league but sometimes come unstuck against those at the bottom.

“They will be a different prospect for us as they are a young and competitive side and the lads up front are busy and will be testing. It is another interesting game for us and we are going out there aiming to extend the winning run, we have to be prepared to go out and work hard to be able to do that.

“I’m confident though that if we can continue where we left off with a positive second half performance from Monday then we have every chance of picking up another three points.”

McDonald is set to be without defender Lewis Wright and striker Danny Glover who both picked up injuries in the FA Trophy victory over Stamford last weekend.

Saturday’s game will also see us being joined by the Hednesford Branch of the Staffordshire Regimental Association, with a moment of silence set to be held before kick-off to mark the Remembrance Day.
