Match Preview: Lancaster City (H)

Tuesday 16/10/2018

It is a quick return to action for Hednesford Town this evening as we prepare to host Lancaster City at Keys Park.

Following victory on Saturday against South Shields the Pitmen go into the game looking to create some upwards momentum against a Lancaster side that have had a mixed start to the season so far. After losing six out of their opening seven matches a change of manager occurred and last Saturday saw them record a solid victory on the road at Grantham Town.

Last season saw the sides playing out a 1-1 draw here at Keys Park before we triumphed 1-0 away from home.

Manager Rob Smith will looking for his players to pick up where they left off on Saturday as they look to make it back-to-back victories for only the second time this season.

He said:

“On Saturday it was more like the old days at Keys Park, the atmosphere was superb against one of the top sides in the division and I have to say that our lads rose to the occasion – with the hard work leading to a result that we deserved.

“We have been up and down this season so far and it has been very frustrating, now we need to find some consistency and find it quickly if we are to achieve anything. We have proved on our day we have the ability and desire, but this needs to be shown week in week out – starting this evening.”

Smith is still set to be without Matt Dodd, Josh Craddock, Charlie Gatter and Jed Davies although Sam Grimshaw did take part in the warm-up on Saturday so there is some hope he could be back in contention for the game.

Meanwhile striker Mikey Nelson has signed for Redditch United on a dual registration in order to get more regular football, with the Pitmen also keeping him on Northern Premier League forms.

The game kicks-off at the usual midweek time of 7.45pm and we look forward to your support at Keys Park as we look to gain another victory on our own pitch.
