Tonight's Birmingham Senior Cup fixture at HOME against Romulus has been postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.

Match Preview: Matlock Town (H)

Friday 08/03/2013

The Pitmen’s push for promotion continues apace this Saturday following their 2-0 win against AFC Fylde in midweek, a result celebrated with gusto by the supporters who chose to forego the ‘biggest match in Europe’ to witness a superb rear-guard action from Rob Smith’s side.

The Club have some huge home games on the horizon with Saturday’s fixture followed a week later by the biggest match in the league all season as current league leaders North Ferriby United visit Keys Park and Supporters Association Joint-Chairman, Scott Smith, is hopeful that Rob Smith’s team will have support in numbers in the next few weeks.

‘Tuesday’s game was always going to see a lower attendance than normal with such a big European game but I’m sure the support will grow over the next few weeks with the game versus North Ferriby no doubt a high point and one which we hope will continue right until the end of the season.’

Manager Rob Smith agreed with the fact that everyone connected with the club needs to pull together and support the team, starting on Saturday.

‘We are all in this together from the Chairman to the fans, to the team. We all want the same thing and we need to back one another as much as possible when things are going well and not so well. The players thrive on the support and I hope to see it continue on Saturday and beyond.’

Matlock Town are the visitors and, having held FC United of Manchester to a draw on Wednesday night to severely curtail The Red Rebels’ title aspirations, they will no doubt be out to inflict similar disappointment on The Pitmen tomorrow afternoon.

In previous meetings Matlock have given a good account of themselves against the Pitmen with Hednesford securing a 3-2 victory in November 2012 through a goal of the season scissor kick by Aaron Rey. The sides’ previous meeting at Keys Park was a 1-1 draw in September 2011.

Alex Melbourne returns from a two game suspension and will take his place in the squad with Rob Smith also looking at loan targets to ease the burden of both Jamey Osborne and Darren Campion facing suspensions in the coming weeks.

An eighth straight home victory for The Pitmen will continue their quest for the title and leave just one game left, Kendal Town away on Tuesday night, before the league-leaders come to town.
