Match Preview: Ashton United (A)

Friday 19/08/2016

The Pitmen head to the suburbs of Manchester on Saturday, aiming to keep their 100% start to the season intact as they take on Ashton United.

Our hosts on Saturday have started the season with a victory and a draw so far and will no doubt have ambitions of keeping that unbeaten run going as they look to match their record of reaching the play-offs in the last two campaigns.

Ashton have been one of the mainstays at this level and our last clash against them came in February 2013 when we had to come from 2-1 down to earn a point as our push for promotion continued that season.

Manager Liam McDonald was looking forward to seeing his side in action again as he looks to keep this positive start to the season going.

He said:

“We have had a good start by winning the two games that we have played so far – that has really pleased me.

“It will be another tough test for us again this weekend, we know that, as we come up against an Ashton side that have are also unbeaten so far and have performed well in recent seasons at this level.”

The Pitmen manager is set to be without Tristian Dunkley and Lewis Wright, who both suffered hamstring injuries in the opening two games of the campaign. Ashley Sammons also picked up a slight knock on Tuesday evening but he should be fit enough to play on Saturday.

Anyone wishing to make the trip to the game can do so via the Hednesford Town Independent Travel Club. Call Ken Leese on 07935723290 to book your seat ahead of the trip tomorrow.
