Match Preview: Spennymoor Town (H)

Friday 12/08/2016

After five weeks of pre-season football, the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League campaign kicks off in earnest this weekend when we host Spennymoor Town at Keys Park.

This will be our first ever competitive meeting with Spennymoor and they will be a good test for Liam McDonald’s new look squad, having earned promotion through the play-offs last season from the Evo-Stik Division One North.

McDonald’s squad ended their pre-season campaign in strong form, defeating both Mansfield Town and AFC Rushden & Diamonds without conceding a goal although the Manager is all too aware of the threat that Saturday’s visitors will bring with them. He said:

“Spennymoor had a good season last time around and I know they have added quite a few good and experienced players to their squad.

“We know that the start of the season will be a test for our squad as we have had a lot of new players coming in over the summer.

“It is going to be a tough start that will test us, but that is football. All I am looking for is a positive performance from this team. If they can do that then there is a good chance of a positive result in our favour.”

McDonald only has one injury worry in the form of Joel Logan who damaged his shoulder against Mansfield 11 days ago. The club are also awaiting confirmation that Jamie Matthews’ international clearance has been granted.

As usual the game kicks off at 3pm and we look forward to welcoming you to Keys Park for this league opener. The bar will be open in-time for the Dundee v Rangers match on BT Sport beforehand and it will remain open for the Manchester City v Sunderland game that kicks off at 5.30pm.
