Sutton Coldfield Town 0-5 Hednesford Town

Wednesday 05/10/2016

Hednesford Town put in a five star performance to move back into the top five of the league as they convincingly defeated Sutton Coldfield Town 5-0.

For the first 15 minutes of the fixture though, that score line certainly looked far away as the home side started very much on the front foot without really testing Dan Crane in the Pitmen goal.

It would be Liam McDonald’s side that would take the lead though with almost their first meaningful attack in the 18th minute. Midfielder Simeon Maye burst forward into space before firing home his first goal for the Pitmen from inside the box.

Just two minutes later the away side doubled their lead when the ball found its way to Danny Glover who was able to shoot across half a dozen players and the goalkeeper into the far corner of the net.

Sutton should really have reduced the arrears in the 29th minute when the ball fell kindly to Jordan Nadat, but the striker blazed his effort over the bar as Crane came out to close him down.

In truth though this was just a blip in what was turning into one way traffic with George Carline heading an effort just wide in the 32nd minute before seeing another effort deflected for a corner two minutes later.

Glover then just failed to get up high enough to a Cohen Bramall free kick before Bramall himself fired over the bar on the stretch.

A third goal would arrive though just a minute before the break, when Gurjit Singh danced his way into the penalty area before being brought down. Up stepped Danny Glover to confidently dispatch the spot kick.

HT: 0 – 3

Although the home side forced a couple of corners in quick succession at the start of the second period it would be the Pitmen that would strike again six minutes in when a corner picked out George Carline who nodded his effort into the corner of the net.

Sutton almost reduced the arrears when Nadat forced a smart save from Crane at his near post, with the follow up effort being turned behind for a corner.

Substitute Ashley Sammons had a great chance to make it five for the Pitmen in the 70th minute but he shanked his shot well wide of the post from just 12 yards.

The away side wouldn’t have to wait long though as they were awarded a second penalty after 73 minutes. With regular penalty taker Glover having left the field it was down to Gurjit Singh to convert the spot kick from 12 yards.

Although the home side forced one final save from Crane in the 89th minute, the Pitmen saw the game out comfortably as they head into the top of the table clash with Rushall Olympic on Saturday.
