Match Preview: Matlock Town (A)

Tuesday 15/08/2017

Hednesford Town return to action this evening as we head to Matlock Town in our first league away game of the new season.

Both sides go into the fixture on the back of opening day 1-1 draws and the Pitmen will be looking to avoid a similar result to last season when we suffered a 2-0 defeat in November 2016.

After ending the game on the front foot against Ashton United on Saturday, manager Neil Tooth will be looking for similar from his side on Tuesday evening.

He said:

“We have got to really carry on from where we finished on Saturday – on the front foot. Obviously, we shall be looking to be a little bit more clinical and ruthless in front of goal and I shall also be telling the players to relax a little bit more.

“I have re-watched the game from Saturday and we have done our analysis accordingly, which had a lot of good things, but it is all about taking a bit more time on the ball and being more clinical.

“We went to watch Matlock on Sunday and they are a good team. Having faced them over the years I know they are strong and although they have lost a couple of players they have recruited well. I saw enough from the other day to go into the game with a plan and we know that if we aren’t at it then they can hurt us.”

The manager also moved to clear up any confusion over recent news of departures from his squad.

He added:

“In terms of J’Cee Abrahams and George Cater we know that you can’t have a dual-registration between Evo-Stik sides. They are agreements between myself and the managers at Romulus and Chasetown to help the players get some game time. If the need arises for us to recall them then we can put in seven day notices and they will come back.”

Tooth will have pretty much a full squad to choose from, although Luke Rodgers will still be missing after only landing home from honeymoon on Monday afternoon. We hope that you can join us for the game which kicks off at 7.45pm.
