Match Preview: Stalybridge Celtic (H)

Friday 17/11/2017

The Pitmen return to league action this weekend as we prepare to welcome Stalybridge Celtic and a former Hednesford Town star in the form of their manager, Steve Burr, to Keys Park.

After suffering FA Trophy disappointment in midweek manager Rob Smith will be looking for his side to bounce back on their own patch against a side that sit 20th in the Evo-Stik Premier League table and have failed to win on their travels this season in the league.

The manager is, of course, wary of the threat posed, even more so given the threadbare squad that he currently has at his disposal.

 He said:

“There was obviously disappointment with our midweek result against Cleethorpes Town in the FA Trophy.

“It is a struggle at this moment in time due to the amount of players that have been unavailable to us, with us suffering a further blow with Tom Thorley coming off with an injury at half-time last weekend.

“This comes at a time when we simply don’t have any more central midfielders in our squad. We are right down to the bare bones and are really unable to do anything about it. It is at least a bonus for us to have Reece King back and available for selection again after not being allowed to play in the Trophy.”

The manager’s squad is once again set to be tested to its limits with Jim Mutton, Tom Thorley and Alfie Crooks all struggling with injuries while Edji Mbunga is also continuing to build his fitness after missing a number of games.

Midfielders James Fitzgibbon and Reece King will be available for selection though after being unavailable on Wednesday evening.

The game kicks off at the usual time of 3pm and Strikers Bar will be open to all supporters both before and after the match.
