Match Preview: Rushall Olympic (H)

Sunday 01/04/2018

It is a quick turnaround for Hednesford Town as tomorrow we return to action when Rushall Olympic make the short journey across to Keys Park on Easter Monday.

After struggling during the early part of the season, the Pics, managed by former Pitmen manager Liam McDonald, have been on an excellent run of late and now sit just two points behind us in the league table.

We go into the game looking to complete a league double over Olympic after our 2-1 victory at Rushall on Boxing Day thanks to goals from Mason Walsh and Charlie Gatter which saw us turnaround a one-nil deficit.

Manager Rob Smith has somewhat of an injury crisis on his hands with him set to be without Sam Oji, Matt Curley, James Fitzgibbon and Danny Glover – leaving the Pitmen with just 13 fit first team players. As such the manager is set to call upon those already registered from the Academy system.

Smith was looking for a response from his depleted squad though following the 3-0 loss at Witton Albion on Saturday.
He said:

“It is a local derby, which matters a lot to us. I’m more interested in the squad that we can field at the moment though as we are really down to the bare bones. It is all about what we can get out there due to the amount of games that we have got coming up.

“We have got a very small squad at the moment and this game comes at the start of what is a tough run for us – but we will stick together.

“I’m also grateful for the fans that have stuck behind us. They have been so loyal to us – I think they can see that everyone is giving all that they can and if this support can continue then it would be most appreciated.”

The game kicks off at 3pm and we look forward to welcoming you to Keys Park with Strikers Bar open to both sets of supporters before and after the game.
