It is once again a quick turnaround for Hednesford Town as we return to action this evening when Rushall Olympic visit Keys Park.
This game was originally scheduled for Easter Monday – however due to the inclement weather around during the whole of that weekend it was called off. Things couldn’t be more different for tonight though with the area currently experiencing a heatwave.
We have already faced Rushall twice this season, defeating them in the Integro Sport League Cup and also on Boxing Day when we came from behind to earn all three points at Dales Lane. Since then they have been on a very upward trajectory under the guidance of former Pitmen manager Liam McDonald – with them sitting in the top half of the league table.
Rob Smith’s side go into the game looking to build-up on a dramatic last minute Danny Glover goal at Grantham Town on Tuesday which saw us earn a late point – despite barely being able to put a fit team of players into action.
The manager said:
“We went to Grantham with just 13 fit players, but quite a few were carrying knocks. We started young Tom Wheeldon for his debut as well, but I know no one, probably including ourselves, gave us a chance.
“We somehow managed to put a decent rear-guard performance in though and Danny Glover nicked a last second equaliser to grab us a draw.
“I think this showed great character under the circumstances and hopefully we can carry that on this evening.”
Smith will once again be able to call upon the services of Ben Bailey after suspension and James Wren again although he is without Sam Oji and Charlie Gatter (suspension) while James Fitzgibbon, Darren Campion, Jack Rea and Louis Harris will all face fitness tests.
The game kicks off at 7.45pm and we look forward to welcoming you to Keys Park with Strikers Bar open to both sets of supporters before and after the game.
