Match Preview: Stoke City (H)

Tuesday 10/04/2018

The Pitmen return home this evening, as our attention turns towards the Staffordshire Senior Cup, when Stoke City visit Keys Park.

This fixture is the first of three semi-finals that we are due to play in between now and the end of the campaign, with us looking to overcome Premier League opposition this evening and book a place in the final at the Bet365 Stadium.

Having seen off Lichfield City and Newcastle Town, with just nine men, this will probably be the biggest test that we have faced so far in this competition as we come up against a Stoke side that will no doubt have some squad members with professional football experience among their ranks.

After rescuing a late point against Stourbridge on Saturday, the Pitmen go into the game without Sam Oji and Matt Curley who have both picked up injuries in recent weeks. However, after coming on during the second half at the weekend James Fitzgibbon is now heading towards full fitness.

Manager Rob Smith added:

“Saturday was another tough game for us but we kept going until the end and eventually gained a point – which of course was pleasing to see.

“Tonight we turn our attentions away from the league for a while. We are desperate to win some silverware this season so please come along and support the lads as you always do, it would be great to get into the final of a competition this season.”

Smith will also now be able to take his place in the dugout again after serving a suspension following his sending off earlier in the season.

The game kicks off at the usual midweek time of 7.45pm and Strikers Bar will be open to all supporters both before and after the match.
