Hednesford Town 1-1 Stafford Rangers

Honours even in the first leg of the Staffordshire derby.
Football returned to the PRG Stadium at Keys Park as old rivalries were renewed in the Staffordshire derby. The Pitmen made the better start with Carter Lycett sending an inviting cross into the Stafford area, Danny Glover came close to getting on the end of it. George Cater hit the side netting after a dangerous attacking move featuring a tricky lay-off from Glover. Dan Turner went close shooting just over the bar, while a tangle between the Stafford keeper and Glover did not produce the penalty that seemed likely. Stafford’s best chance in the first half came when a cross from the left was headed wide by number 9.
HT 0-0
Danny Glover opened the scoring in the 48th minute with a trademark strike from the left of the visitor’s area. Turner and Cater combined well to come close to stretching the Pitmen lead further. On the hour mark the game was disrupted by the obligatory pre-season mass substitutions with six from Stafford and three from Hednesford. Stafford equalised through Jamie Sleight when the Pitmen failed to clear a corner in the 75th minute. Although the Pitmen dominated possession during the closing stages, the game ended as a draw. The return fixture will be held at Marston Road on Saturday 29th August.
