Chasetown FC 0-1 Hednesford Town

Saturday 05/09/2020

A quick turnaround after Thursday night’s draw at Bromsgrove Sporting, saw the Pitmen travel to the Scholars Ground for a one o’clock kick off with Chasetown FC.

George Cater almost made the perfect return to his former club hitting the side netting early when played through by Danny Glover. After a promising opening ten minutes the Pitmen appeared jaded for the rest of the half and rode their luck with O’Callaghan shooting high and wide and former Pitmen striker Joey Butlin glancing a header wide of the post. The hosts continued to carve out the best chances but were unable to find a breakthrough with some wayward finishing.

HT 0-0

Chasetown continued to pile on the pressure in the second half with Wycherley making an early save from Butlin, some last ditch defending during a sequence of corners kept the Pitmen level before O’Callaghan blazed his shot over the crossbar.

In the 74th minute substitute Lee Smith won the game for the visitors, powering beyond a defender to find space on the right of the area, slotting the ball past Scholars’ keeper Curtis Pond. Glover’s header from a corner was cleared off the line by a defender as the Pitmen closed out a narrow victory.
