Alvechurch 0-1 Hednesford Town

Sunday 22/08/2021

Hednesford Town made it three wins in a row at Alvechurch who were buoyant following their convincing midweek victory over Bromsgrove Sporting. For the Pitmen, Josh Webb and Reece Flanagan replaced the injured Courtney Richards and Sam Griffiths, while young winger Joe Morley was promoted to the bench.

The Pitmen should of taken the lead on the half hour mark after dominating the game from the start. Reece Flanagan came close to opening the scoring with an attempted lob which just cleared the bar. Andre Landell agonizingly fired over from close range following Carter Lycett’s dangerous cross from the left. In the first half, the Church were only able to produce a long range effort from Josh Ezewele, which went high and wide of the target.

Another good quality Pitmen move saw Ryan Pryce tripped in the area by Dave Bellis with Landell stepping up to score the penalty in the 39th minute against his former club. The home side were unhappy with the penalty decision with Ash Carter’s protests earning a caution from referee James Cox. Flanagan nearly scored just before half time with a carbon copy of his goal against Needham Market last Saturday but this time the ball drifted inches wide of the far post.
HT 0-1
The Pitmen managed the second half of the game and bar a brief spell of Alvechurch pressure, in which substitute Colin Smith shot wide of the mark, the score only looked like changing in favour of the visitors. George Cater went close after finding himself through on goal, while Landell forced an instinctive double save from Daniel Jezeph in the home goal. Ben Bailey deserved to see his name on the score sheet with two goal bound headers deflected wide by the Church defence.
Another professional performance saw the Pitmen control the game, confidently following up the previous two wins with another three points in difficult conditions on a wet, sloping pitch to continue their excellent start to the season.
