Hednesford Town Football Club are pleased to announce the signing of Kyle Bennett from National League North side AFC Telford United.

Bennett, 31, began his career in Wolves youth academy before moving to league 2 side Bury in 2010. Following a successful 12 months at Gigg Lane a move to then Championship side Doncaster for £180,000 followed where he spent 3 years with the club. Loans at Crawley Town and Bradford City followed before a move to the south coast with Portsmouth in 2015 where he remained until 2018.

Following his time with Pompey a move to Bristol Rovers was next up for The attacking midfielder before spending the latter part of 2018/19 on loan with Swindon Town before spending the 2020/21 season on loan at Grimsby Town.

Despite spending some time on trial at Notts County during the summer of 2021 Bennett signed for AFC Telford United on a short term deal for the season.

Kyle has made 396 appearances in the football league and FA Cup, scoring 40 goals during that time.

Pitmen manager Keenen Meakin-Richards said “Kyle is a superb footballer, his pedigree speaks for itself and this time a year ago he was playing for Grimsby which in itself tells you the talent he has, he will add something big to this team make no mistake about it players like Kyle don’t become available very often so signing him is a real statement from us as a club”.

A massive welcome to the Pitmen Kyle.
