On Tuesday Hednesford play the first of two County Cup games in two days when they make the short trip to Leek for their long-awaited Staffordshire Senior Cup tie, knowing that a trip to Stafford Rangers in the quarter finals awaits the winners.
Leek Town play one step below Hednesford Town in the Pitching In Northern Premier League West Division. They are enjoying a good season and currently sit in second place behind Macclesfield who beat them 4-0 last Saturday. They are eight points behind Macc but have a game in hand and are three points ahead of third placed Workington. Macclesfield also beat Leek in the second league game of the season in Staffordshire, one of only two home league defeats they have suffered this term, the other being a 2-0 loss to Runcorn Linnets. They did however fall to a shock 5-1 home defeat to Atherstone in the FA Cup.
We can expect to see a few familiar faces in the home squad with Louis Keenan, Ross Davidson and Tim Grice all having played for The Pitmen at one time. Grice is the club’ longest serving player and before this season had scored a club record 227 goals in 420 games. Tom Thorley of course recently rejoined us from Leek a few weeks ago.
Leek play at The F.Ball Community Stadium (previously known as Harrison Park) which is on Macclesfield Road ST13 8LD. The ground capacity is 3,600 with cover on all four sides and 600 seats in the stand. Parking at the ground is extremely limited but there is plenty of room on the A523 which runs past the stadium.
Online tickets for the game are available at £5 adults, £3 concessions and £2 under 18s. See the Leek Town website for details. The game kicks off at 7.45pm.
