It’s Friday night football for Hednesford this week when they visit Hanley Town in the Northern Premier League West Division on Friday 2nd February.
This won’t be the first time that The Pitmen have been in action on a Friday evening, the last time being in the Northern Premier League Premier Division when they won 2-1 against Northwich Victoria in a game played at Leek Town’s ground on April 13th, 2012.
Hednesford and Hanley have already met in league action this season at Keys Park back in September 2023 when, in a bizarre game Hanley won 2-1 with both Sam Paddock and Jack Kelly scoring own goals.
Hanley sit in 16th place in the league table with 27 points from 23 games, just four more points than Hednesford. At home they have won three games (1-0 v Nantwich, 4-2 v 1874 Northwich and 2-0 v Clitheroe), drawn three and lost six, scoring 11 goals and conceding 17 while the current form table sees them in 17th place with four points from six games compared to Hednesford’s eight from six. Their leading scorers are Tyrone Ofori who has ten goals from 23 games (five league, four FA Cup and one FA Trophy) and Keiron Brown who has eight from 32 games (four league, one FA Cup and three FA Trophy). Hanley’s best league attendance so far this season is 283 against Newcastle Town while the lowest is 111 against both Clitheroe and Trafford.
Hednesford’s injury list is at last showing signs of easing. Lucas Yeomans and Hayden Reeves are still out but Sam Griffiths, Callam Mendez-Jones, James Carvell and Sam Paddock all came through the Staffs Senior Cup game against Leek unscathed. Jack Kelly trained before the game following his achilles injury against City of Liverpool.
Hanley play at Potteries Park, Abbey Lane, Bucknall, Stoke-on-Trent, ST2 8AJ where they have played since 1976. Admission is £10 adults, £5 concessions with under 10s free. Kick off will be at 7.45pm.
