Hednesford Town v Romulus

Monday 05/02/2024

Tuesday 6th February sees Hednesford take a break from Northern Premier League football when they entertain Romulus of the Midland League Premier Division in the third round of the Birmingham Senior Cup. The Birmingham based side play at the Castle Vale Stadium and it was there that they knocked out a young Burton Albion side in the second round with goals from Isai Marselia (2) and leading scorer Luke Keen who has since signed for Coleshill Town. Some of The Roms squad will be familiar to Hednesford fans as goalkeeper Lewis Gwilliams, midfielder Steve Palmer and strikers Ryan Nesbitt and Rob Hanna have all spent time with The Pitmen while Manager Neil Tooth has been both manager in his own right and assistant manager to Steve Burr at Keys Park.
On Saturday Romulus drew 1-1 defeat at Stourport Swifts, Isai Marselia equalising in the second half for The Roms. The result left them in 12th place in the league with 26 points from 21 games. They have won seven, drawn five and lost nine of those games, scoring 32 goals but conceding 33.
Hednesford have reached this stage of the competition thanks to a penalty shoot-out win at Tamworth after the game had finished 2-2 after normal time, Kaden May netting the decisive penalty kick.
Lucas Yeomans will still be missing from The Pitmen squad due to injury as will Ryan Boothe who played for Boldmere St Michaels in a previous round against Alvechurch.

Kick off will be at 7.45pm on Tuesday with reduced admission prices of £5 adults, £4 concessions, £1 U16s and parking £1.
A home quarter final tie against Coventry City awaits the winners.
