Hednesford Town v Vauxhall Motors

Friday 01/03/2024

The phrase ‘relegation six pointer’ is an overused cliché in football but if it exists at all then the game at Keys Park on Saturday 2 nd March is certainly that. Hednesford who are in 19th place in the Northern Premier League West Division table entertain Vauxhall Motors who are one place above them but with the cushion of an eight-point lead and two games in hand over The Pitmen. Both teams are short of form and have won only one league game each in 2024, Hednesford beating Widnes 3-0 on 6th January while Vauxhall beat 1874 Northwich last weekend.
Vauxhall Motors have very similar home and away records, winning five, drawing two and losing seven at Rivacre Park and winning four, drawing two and losing seven on their travels. The big difference being though that they have scored just 11 goals away from home compared to 25 at home. Their leading scorers are Conor Harwood with six goals (including one in the FA Trophy) and Ben Holmes with five. In the reverse fixture this season Vauxhall Motors beat Hednesford 3-2 back in October. Despite twice taking the lead through Danny Glover (15 minutes) and Demitri Brown (48 minutes), two goals in the last six minutes gave the Motormen all three points following Lucas Yeomans’ red card.
Yeomans is expected to be the only absentee through injury from the Hednesford squad on Saturday, although Jack Kelly is suspended as Paul Moore takes charge of his first game at Keys Park following Saturday’s defeat at Runcorn and Tuesday night’s 6-3 Walsall Senior Cup win at Tividale.

Kick off will be at 3pm with gates and bars open at 1pm.
