Chasetown v Hednesford Town

Monday 08/04/2024

Tuesday 9th April sees Hednesford taking a break from the rigours of Northern Premier League football when they visit local rivals Chasetown in the semi final of the Walsall Senior Cup.

In previous rounds Chasetown have beaten Stafford town 4-0 and Sporting Khalsa 4-1 and Hednesford have seen off Darlaston 3-0 and Tividale 6-3.

In league fixtures this season there has been no separating the two teams after a 1-1 draw at Keys Park on August Bank Holiday Monday and a goalless draw at Chasetown on New Years Day. In the Northern Premier League West Division table Chasetown are in 12th place with 47 points from 35 games while Hednesford are in 19th place with 32 points from 35 games but as we all know, league positions count for nothing in cup games.

Although cup tied players won’t be available on Tuesday night – Jai Verma for Hednesford and Callam Mendez-Jones and Carter Lycett for Chasetown, there will still be a familiarity between the two clubs with Joe Morley re-joining Hednesford from Chasetown earlier in the season and James Wren, Bradley Clarkson, Sam Wilding, Kris Taylor and Danny Glover all being ex-Pitmen while Chase boss Mark Swann was on the Keys Park coaching staff under Rob Smith.

Ryan Brown, Josh Endall and Blaine Rowe will face late fitness tests for Hednesford with a long term injury still keeping Lucas Yeomans out of the squad.

Chasetown play at Scholars Ground, Church Street, Chasetown WS7 3QL. The ground has a newly installed artificial surface and a capacity of 3,000. Reduced admission prices will apply on Tuesday with £5 for adults and £2 for concessions and the game kicking off at 7.45pm.

The winners of the tie will play either Rushall Olympic or Lichfield City in the final at the Poundland Stadium on Tuesday 7th May.
