Five Star Pitmen Second Half Display Puts Demons To Rest
Hednesford Town successfully exorcised their FA Cup demons from the weekend with a superb second half display to run out convincing winners against minnows Willenhall Town to set up a home tie with League One side Walsall in the next round of the Birmingham Senior Cup.
A poor opening half, which saw the home side take the lead early on with through Tom Wright’s quality free kick, was thoroughly laid to rest after the break as Marvin Robinson’s equaliser in first half stoppage time, set up a storming performance from Rob Smith’s men.
Chris Clements stroked in a penalty to score his seventh goal in seven matches, Darren Campion rifled in an easy third, Kyle Haynes lashed in a superb fourth following a marauding run, Mark Danks swept in the fifth and Elliott Durrell hit an unstoppable free kick to finish the rout.
Rob Smith will be delighted that both Durrell and Danks picked up valuable game time as they look to build up their fitness for the long Winter months ahead. The return of both players will create a very competitive squad with a number of forward options for the Hednesford management to choose from.
Three youngsters also played their part during the game with Ajay Chohan, Brad Grice and Amani Allen all experiencing valuable first team action as The Pitmen’s movement in the final half hour completely dominated the Midland Alliance side and set the squad up nicely for Saturdays trip to Bedworth in the FA Trophy First Qualifying round.
