Hednesford Town Sign Daniel Trickett-Smith

Sunday 16/06/2024

Hednesford Town are delighted to announce the signing of attacking midfielder Daniel Trickett-Smith from Leek Town.

The mercurial midfielder, 28, is widely regarded as the stand-out player across both this league and beyond and comes to Keys Park on the back of a Northern Premier League Division One West title winning season with Leek Town.

Daniel started his career at Crewe Alexandra, also representing England U16’s, before making a £300,000 move to Liverpool where he was highly regarded by Brendan Rodgers and was on the periphery of the Liverpool first team. Unfortunate injuries hampered his progress and he made the move to America where he played for Sacramento Republic. After returning to the UK he joined Leek Town for the first time in September 2017.

The midfielder was signed by Port Vale on ‘transfer deadline day’ in January 2019, signing a two-year deal with the Valiants, before being loaned back to Leek for the remainder of the season. His performances at Leek saw him named in the Northern Premier League West Division ‘team of the season’ at the end of the 2018–19 campaign.

Whilst with the Valiants he was also sent out on loan to Curzon Ashton, FC United of Manchester and another spell with Leek Town, in order to get first team football, before going on to make his full debut for Vale in a Football League Trophy win over Newcastle United in November. However, after just three appearances in two years, he was released at the end of the 2020-21 season and returned permanently to Leek.

Last season, during Leek’s title winning run, he amassed 19 goals and numerous assists in 32 appearances, including scoring against ourselves in our December fixture away at Harrison Park. Dan has made 186 appearances at this level, scoring 75 goals from midfield. His performances have seen him being a regular fixture in Team of the Seasons over the past few campaigns and winning him an array of awards from fans, pundits and peers meaning this is a statement signing by the club.

On the signing, manager Steve King had the following to say:

‘ I am absolutely thrilled to get Daniel to the club. My philosophy for my teams is attack and attractive football and there is no one better to fit into that remit that Dan. His stats speak for themselves, he is a player I admire and more importantly he is a genuine character who is the exact fit for the type of player I want in my team’

Everyone at Keys Park is excited to have Daniel on board and we wish him all the best here at the club.
