Pitch Rather Than Date Concerns Smith As Pitmen Draw Romulus In Trophy

Wednesday 31/10/2012

Hednesford Town managed to avoid bigger fish in the FA Trophy Third Qualifying Round Draw on Monday lunchtime, after being paired with Romulus FC of the Evo-Stik First Division South.

Romulus, currently lying fifth bottom in the league below Hednesford, play their home games at Sutton Coldfield Town FC and, due to the fact that Sutton are at home on Saturday 10th November, The Pitmen will be making the short trip south on Sunday 11th November for a 2pm kick off.

Hednesford manager Rob Smith, reacting to the draw on Tuesday morning, was confident his team will deal with the rather obscure day of the game but did admit that the artificial pitch at Coles Lane does give Romulus an advantage.

“I’m not sure the day of the game really matters. Footballers don’t really like change much but I think the pitch gives them a massive advantage. Although the surface is good for an artificial pitch, obviously our lads have not had the chance to play on it so it will be different.”

Should The Pitmen emerge victorious in what will no doubt be a tough game they will be in the hat for the First Round Proper draw and will be looking for a bumper draw against one of the Conference big boys.
