Match Preview: Walsall Wood (A)

Saturday 11/07/2015

Just 74 days since the end of the 2014/15 campaign, Rob Smith’s new-look squad get ready to begin their pre-season campaign with a trip to Walsall Wood this afternoon.

The close season has seen no less than 14 new arrivals at Keys Park, with nine players heading out in the opposite direction, as the manager completed a thorough overhaul of his squad in preparation for his fifth full season with the club.

Included within those arriving at the club are, of course, some familiar faces who have returned for a second spell. All will be welcomed back to the club as we start a third season at this level.

The first friendly sees what is always a tough test against Walsall Wood – as last year showed when only a last-minute Jamey Osborne goal earned a 2-1 victory in a friendly, before they knocked us out by the same scoreline in the Staffordshire Senior Cup in October.

Smith is set to have all but one of his squad, with Paul McCone still recovering from injury,  available for selection for the game at Oak Park which kicks off at 3.00pm.
