Match Preview: AFC Fylde (A)

Tuesday 11/08/2015

Rob Smith’s team head to the North West on Tuesday evening, aiming to make it two out of two victories at the start of the new season as they come up against an AFC Fylde side fancied by many to lift the title come the end of the campaign.

Kellamergh Park has been a mixed hunting ground for Hednesford Town over the years with a 2-1 victory being recorded on our first ever visit back on the final day of the 2012/13 regular season being followed up by defeats last year in both league and FA Trophy.

After a 3-0 defeat against Solihull Moors on Saturday, Fylde will no doubt be wanting to put on a show for their home supporters but they come up against a side in the Pitmen that are full of confidence after their weekend’s success.

This is something which manager Smith felt would prove worthwhile for his new squad of players:

“Going there with three points on the board means we can relax a bit but there is no tougher game away than Fylde – I’ve always said that.

“I don’t worry about anything any more though as I think it is a challenge for me to get a set of young boys to go up to the best team in the league at home and try and get something.

“That is the task which we have set to the lads and whatever the result, they will come away having learned something from it.”

Smith is set to be without Adam Thomas who was forced off with a shoulder injury on Saturday, while John Disney will also be missing. Kyle Perry and Jon Adams will both be pushing to try and be fit for the clash after missing out on the opening day.
