It is a quick return to action for Liam McDonald’s side as they prepare to make the trip to Derbyshire for this evening’s midweek fixture.
Matches against Ilkeston over the years have usually been tight affairs; although we did manage to do a league double over the Derbyshire side the last time that we faced each other back in the 2012/13 season.
That campaign saw the Pitmen record a 2-0 victory on the road late on as we moved on towards promotion.
McDonald is going into the game looking for a reaction from his side after seeing them having to come from behind twice to earn a point against Ashton United at the weekend.
“I expect us to go out and be much better than Saturday. The first half was massively disappointing and I let the players know that.
“At times in that second half though we have strung passes together and opened them up, with it being defence verses attack for 30 minutes.
“We have got enough in this squad and the starting XI to go and make sure that we score the goals early on. It will be good for us to hopefully bounce back pretty quickly.”
On the injury front Sean Geddes is expected to return to the squad after missing Saturday’s game due to illness. A late decision will be made on Tom Thorley as well after the midfielder picked up a slight calf injury; however he is expected to be fit to play. Tristian Dunkley will miss the fixture, although will possibly take some part in the warm-up, as he is given chance to fully recover from a hamstring injury picked up in the opening week of the season.
The game kicks off at the usual midweek time of 7.45pm. Fans making their way home afterwards have been advised that some sections of the A38 southbound are closed overnight.
