Match Preview: Halesowen Town (H)

Sunday 01/01/2017

The Pitmen head into 2017 looking to start the year on the front foot as they prepare to host Halesowen Town at Keys Park on Monday, January 2.

It has been over four months since we travelled to the Grove and recorded a comfortable victory on a sunny August afternoon.

You have to go back almost five years for the last game between the two sides at Keys Park when in March 2011 we were able to record a 4-2 victory over the Yeltz.

Manager Paul Casey was looking for his side to get the New Year off to a good start as they look to bounce back from the defeat against Stafford Rangers.

He said:

“Looking back to Boxing Day and for 50 minutes I thought that we were by far the better team. Unfortunately, we became fatigued as the game wore on. I understand that fatigue is an issue though and we will be working hard to make sure that we can last for a full 90 minutes.

“We did at least create chances against Stafford, as that was something which we weren’t doing when I arrived as we had no real centre forward.

“In 21 days we signed 12 players, without which we wouldn’t have had a team. This was partly down to a couple of my decisions but also distractions from outside leading to players leaving – something I have not come across in my 15 years as a manager.

“I firmly believe that the next month will continue to see us growing together as a team and then in February and March we can kick on towards the play-offs.”

The Pitmen go into the game with somewhat of a depleted squad as Lloyd Ransome (shoulder) and Lewis Wright (knee) miss out due to injury. Meanwhile Tom Thorley (hip), Vinney Mukendi (broken nose), Danny Glover (sickness) and Spencer Weir-Daley (calf) all face late fitness tests to see if they will be involved on the day.

The game kicks off at 3pm and Strikers Bar will be open to all supporters both before and after the match.
