Buxton FC 2-0 Hednesford Town

Thursday 16/02/2017

The Pitmen were back on their travels for a tough Tuesday night test at The Silverlands and even though the players battled hard they would, once again, come home without any points.

After a competitive opening spell the visitors were denied the start they needed when Tony Clarke latched onto a well directed pass from Danny Glover to rifle a shot into the top right hand corner only for the linesman to harshly rule it out for offside.

In the 34th minute a surging Tom Thorley run was brought to an abrupt halt with an unfair challenge but the resulting free kick was blasted over the bar by the usually more assured Danny Glover.

As Buxton restarted the ball was played forward and indecision in the Hednesford defence allowed Bradley Grayson to open the scoring for the home side.

HT: 1-0

In the 50th minute some good work by the Pitmen ended with Glover shooting wide of the post and shortly after a shot on the turn by Stuart McNaught took a heavy deflection but was well saved by Jan Budtz.

On 55 minutes a cross into the visitors’ box picked out Alistair Taylor loitering on the back post and with the player looking well offside the linesman kept his flag down leaving the striker to slot home unchallenged.

As the game was drawing to a close a fracas developed in front of the home team dugouts as they tried to make their third and final substitution, having been told by the assistant referee that they had already made their full allocation. The referee was called over to intervene and clarify the situation and as this waste of time became more frustrating, Vinny Mukendi was shown a second yellow card for pushing an opponent and dismissed from the field of play.

This proved to be the final frustrating incident of a game in which the Pitmen deserved something but ended up going home empty handed.
