Match Preview: Mickleover Sports (A)

Friday 31/03/2017

The Pitmen prepare to play their final game of a busy March tomorrow afternoon when we head north on the A38 to Mickleover Sports.

It will be only the second time that we have made the trip to Mickleover, with our previous game against the Derbyshire based side coming all the way back in August 2011, when two second half goals saw us record a 2-1 victory.

After defeating Mickleover 1-0 at Keys Park earlier in the season, thanks to a solitary goal from Danny Glover, the Pitmen head into the game looking to record a league double over Sports.

Our hosts on Saturday currently sit in 18th place in the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League and are nervously looking over their shoulders, sitting just five points clear of the relegation zone.

Following the victory over Ilkeston in midweek manager Gary Birch was looking for a similar response from his side on Saturday.

He said:

“Our focus now turns to Mickleover, where we must take the game to them. We shall be going there looking to bring back all three points. If we could put two back-to-back results together going into the hectic week that we have coming up then it helps with confidence.

“We are going to need every player between now and the end of the season so it is important that we give everyone a run of games in the side.”

On the injury front, Jordan Fitzpatrick will again be unavailable for selection due to a hamstring injury which is lingering on, while Darren Campion’s ankle injury which kept him out of the last game against Ilkeston will be assessed to see if he can return to the starting line-up.

The game kicks off at the usual time of 3pm and we hope that you can make the trip to support the Pitmen –  there are still spaces available on the Travel Club coach, phone Ken Leese (07935723290) to book a seat.
