Match Preview: Stafford Rangers (A)

Monday 28/08/2017

Hednesford Town manager Neil Tooth, and a number of his players, get the chance to experience the intensity of a local derby fixture against Stafford Rangers today as the Pitmen make the short journey across Cannock Chase to Marston Road.

After suffering three defeats against our near rivals last season we go into this game looking to rectify that record, although we come up against a Rangers side that have enjoyed a fairly fruitful start to their Evo-Stik campaign.

Meanwhile Hednesford are looking to earn their first points away from home this season after suffering two defeats against Matlock Town and Shaw Lane AFC.

The Pitmen manager goes into the game looking for his side to take their chances as he aims for three points on the road.

He said:

“I was disappointed after Saturday as I felt that we created a lot of chances in a tight game. When it comes to clear cut chances I thought we edged it and although ‘Wreny’ has made a couple of good saves I thought we should have won it. It is another game where the chances we have missed have cost us.

“This game is just what we need right now. I questioned the players’ heart and character after the game on Saturday and if they wanted to put their body on the line – something they will need to do today. It is certainly going to be blood and thunder and we know there is going to be a big crowd.

“We have players who have played in big games before, but they are at Hednesford now and for a lot of them this will be the first time, like me, that they have tasted this derby. We shall be going to Stafford looking to win as we’d set ourselves a target of four points over the weekend. I shall also be looking to change things around a little as we have deep squad of players and they will be needed after a game just 48 hours ago.”

Tooth will have a full squad to choose from with Lewis Wright having missed Saturday’s game due to a prior commitment. We hope that you can join us for the game which kicks off at 3pm.
