MEAKIN-RICHARDS AND DEAKIN APPOINTED AT THE PITMEN

Sunday 01/11/2020

Hednesford Town are delighted and excited to announce that Keenen Meakin-Richards has been appointed as the clubs First Team Manager whilst Graham Deakin has been appointed as the clubs Assistant Manager.

Meakin-Richards, 31, had a fantastic non league playing career with a number of clubs including here at Hednesford Town as well as Walsall Wood, Bromsgrove Sporting and Sporting Khalsa amongst others before becoming a coach and became Hednesford Town’s Academy Manager in 2019, overseeing a major overhaul of the academy that has began reaping benefits already with 2 academy players breaking into the first team squad this season.

Following the clubs parting of ways with Andy Morrell, Keenen took over the first team managers role on an interim basis winning 3 out of his 5 games in charge including a fantastic 5-1 win against his former club Bromsgrove and the work that Keenen has put in behind the scenes as well as the improvement on the pitch has made him the clubs number 1 choice for the first team managers job and we are delighted to be able to confirm Keenen as the new first team manager.

On his appointment Keenen said “ First all want to say a massive thank you the Graham, Ade and Terry for giving us this chance, first to steady the ship but now to point it in the right direction. It’s a privilege to manage such a great club especially at such a young age especially after wearing the shirt as a player also. Myself and Deaks will put our heart and soul into the club to make it a success both on and off the pitch. We are young, enthusiastic and driven individuals who want to make a massive impact on the non league scene and we want that to transfer over to the pitch. We want to give the fans a style of play they can be proud of week in week out and, yes, we have a long way to go but join us on this journey as we push the boundaries to be the best we can be! Up the Pitmen!”

33 year old Graham Deakin arrived to become part of the interim coaching team just over a month ago  and the former Walsall, Tamworth and Bromsgrove man has made a big impression around the club, his friendship with Keenen made him the ideal candidate for the role and the connections he has in and around non league are of huge benefit to the club and we are pleased to confirm that Deaks as he is known has been the appointed as the Assistant Manager. On his appointment Deakin said “ I am privileged and honoured to be given the chance to manage Hednesford Town Football Club with Keenen. A close friend for many years with undoubted trust between us. We look forward to playing an attacking brand of football and getting this club up the league. We take it game by game and keep getting results. Finally just want to say a massive thank you to Ade, Graham and Terry who have showed us unbelievable support since we came through the door and for the great opportunity to manage such a wonderful club.”

In a statement Hednesford Town owners Graham Jones and Hayden Dando said “ We are delighted to have agreed terms with Keenen and Deaks to take over on a permanent basis, the turnaround we have watched them oversee has been fantastic and we really feel both of them have a huge future in management. We are aware that we obviously parted ways with our previous manager earlier than anyone had planned however we believe that both Keenen and Deaks are long term appointments who really do have a passion for this football club and as a club we can achieve a lot together with these men at the helm. We ask that our supporters who we really have been humbled by due to their fantastic support of this team so far in the season continue to get behind the club and give Keenen and Deaks the support they deserve’.

Welcome to the Pitmen on a full time basis to both Keenen and Deaks.
