Hednesford Town v Basford United

Friday 24/02/2023

In the first of two home games in four days, Hednesford entertain Basford on Saturday in the Pitching In Southern League Premier Central.  While Hednesford were picking up just their fourth league win of the season at Rushden & Diamonds last Saturday, Basford were going down to a 2-1 home defeat against Mickleover.

Basford currently sit in 15th place in the league table. Of their 38 points, 26 have been picked up at home and 12 on their travels. Their only away wins have come at Coalville and Stourbridge while they have drawn six games and lost five including a 6-2 defeat at Leiston.

In the visitors’ squad will be former Hednesford loanees Kieran Preston and Courey Grantham while another ex-Pitman Anthony Dwyer will sit the game out. Basford’s leading scorer with 15 goals is currently serving a six-game suspension after being sent off after the final whistle at Stourbridge.

When the two clubs met at Basford’s Greenwich Avenue ground back on Tuesday 11th October last year, it seemed that the game would finish goalless until an injury time own goal from Keith Lowe gave the home side all three points.

As usual gates and bars open at 1pm for a 3pm kick off. Admission will be £12 for adults, £9 concessions, £5 for U16s accompanied by a supervising adult and U5s free. A family ticket for one adult and one child is available for £15.
