Hednesford Town v Romulus

Sunday 07/01/2024

Tuesday 9th January sees Hednesford take a break from Northern Premier League football when they entertain Romulus of the Midland League Premier Division in the third round of the Birmingham Senior Cup.

The Birmingham based side play at the Castle Vale Stadium and it was there that they knocked out a young Burton Albion side in the second round with goals from Isai Marselia (2) and leading scorer Luke Keen who has since signed for Coleshill Town. Some of The Roms squad will be familiar to Hednesford fans as goalkeeper Lewis Gwilliams and strikers Ryan Nesbitt and Rob Hanna have all spent time with The Pitmen while Manager Neil Tooth has been both manager in his own right and assistant manager to Steve Burr at Keys Park.

On Saturday Romulus went down to a 2-1 defeat at home to Shifnal Town in front of a crowd of 78. Joe Phillips scored a late consolation for Romulus after Kevin Hemagou and another ex-Pitmen Joe Cuff had given the visitors the lead. The result left The Roms in 11th place in the league with 22 points from 18 games. They have won six, drawn four and lost eight of those games, scoring 28 goals but conceding 27.

Hednesford have reached this stage of the competition thanks to a penalty shoot-out win at Tamworth after the game had finished 2-2 after normal time, Kaden May netting the decisive penalty kick.

Kick off will be at 7.45pm on Tuesday with reduced admission prices of £5 adults, £4 concessions, £1 U16s and parking £1.
