Hednesford Town v Widnes

Thursday 04/01/2024

On Saturday 6th January Hednesford welcome Widnes to Keys Park for their first Northern Premier League West Division home game of 2024. Hednesford’s last three home games have seen them undefeated with wins over Nantwich and Newcastle and a draw against 1874 Northwich while Widnes’ last three away games have seen them win two and lose one. The current form table has The Pitmen in 12th place with eight points from their last six games and Widnes are in 15th with seven from six while the league table sees them in 10th place with 28 points from 21 games. The majority of Widnes’ points have come from their 11 home games with six wins, a draw and four defeats. Away from the DCBL Stadium they haven’t fared so well with just those two wins (3-2 at Vauxhall Motors and 2-0 at Nantwich), three draws and five defeats.

Their leading scorers are Jack McGowan and James Steele with seven league goals each. Four of Steele’s came against Hednesford in the 5-1 defeat back on 25th August. Widnes are a relative newcomer to the non-league scene, being founded in 2003 as Dragons AFC, becoming Widnes FC in 2014 after short tenures as Widnes Dragons and Widnes Vikings.

Saturday’s game will kick off at the usual time of 3pm with turnstiles and bars open at 1pm. Admission is £11 adults, £8 concessions, £3 under 16s with car parking at £3 and the award-winning programme £2.50.
