Interview with Kieran Wells.

Our talismanic striker talks about his tips for next season, the greatest player of all time and chasing crisp packets.

Footballing highlights.

“I started at Ollerton Town, a small club from my area which gave me a chance to play, after that I moved to Belper Town with Wardy and got promoted to the NPL. From there to Basford which personally for me as a player, who had never been at an academy, was an achievement being bought for a fee!”

“My best moment is playing for Hednesford. Like I said, I’ve never been at a great club or played at a good standard….and now I find myself here! It just shows with hard work and passion you can go anywhere – hard work beats talent”

“My best moment for Hednesford was scoring away at Bamber Bridge for the first time and seeing just how passionate the Pitmen faithful were. I’ve enjoyed entertaining them ever since!”

Southern Central League.

“It could be anyone challenging at the top. But from the look of it Stourbridge will be hard to beat. It’s going to be a great season for everyone to look forward to!”

Inspirations.

“I couldn’t think of a more easier question than this! My dad of course! Seeing him play when I was younger made me really want to be like him. Until I found out I wasn’t as fast or as fit as him I realised I’m going to have to be an “old fashioned” centre forward!”

“Outside of football I enjoy spending time with my family and also working as a cocktail barman…not quite Tom Cruise but I’m working on it!”

Scoring against us.

“I still get reminded of that today! It was a great feeling, as AFC Mansfield should not have come anywhere close to beating Hednesford! We are playing them in pre-season and I would love to get one over on them after playing there! Everything happens for a reason!”

Goal celebrations.

“Of course you have a lot to look forward to next season! Any request please send me a message!”

Tricky opponents and all-time greats.

“Pablo Mills was the most difficult opponent, I don’t want to say a lot about this … but I got dragged at 30 minutes! I sincerely hope I never see that man again!”

“Dean Windass, the way he held the ball up and scored the goals that he did makes him one of the greatest strikers. Best current strikers? – erm don’t know really… I’m going to put my neck on the line and say I don’t think there’s anyone in the league that can do what I do! I can chase crisp packets around for 90 minutes!”

Next season

“Personally I’m hoping for a successful scoring season alongside the ginger himself Danny Glover! Along with that, I am hoping the quality Gaz and Wardy have brought in will bring trophies through the door here at Keys Park.”

“On a final note I’d love to see the fans coming back to Keys Park and supporting us in what should be a memorable season. Thank you for the support last season, myself and the rest of the team can’t wait for you to be the 12th man or women #upthepitmen.”
