Match Preview: Stourbridge – Birmingham Senior Cup Final

Tuesday 08/05/2018

Hednesford Town prepare to play their final game of the 2017/18 campaign this evening when we take on Stourbridge in the Birmingham Senior Cup Final at St Andrew’s Stadium – the home of Birmingham City.

After seeing off Tamworth, Solihull Moors, Burton Albion and Nuneaton Town the Pitmen will be aiming to earn one more victory in this season’s competition against our Evo-Stik Northern Premier League rivals.

It is five years since we last made it to the final of this competition – when we defeated Sutton Coldfield Town at the Banks’s Stadium on the way to a memorable treble – while we also defeated Stourbridge in the final of this cup back in 2009.

It is the Glassboys who hold the slight advantage going into this evening’s game with them having defeated us 2-0 at the War Memorial Ground back in September before we played out a 1-1 draw at Keys Park just a month ago.

Unlike the last couple of months of this campaign manager Rob Smith is set to have a full squad to choose from.

 He said:

“We are all really looking forward to this game – and hopefully we can end the season on a high note. We know that it will be a tough test against a Stourbridge side that we played just a few weeks ago.

“After experiencing one cup final already this season let’s hope that we can end this campaign with a trophy and once again we really need all the support we can get, so please continue to get behind us for one last time.”

All those making the trip by vehicle are advised to park in the main car park of the Kop Stand – entering that stand through the turnstiles, which will be open from 6:30pm, where a match programme will be available for purchase upon arrival.

The Pitmen will be wearing their home kit for the match which kicks off at 7.45pm and we’d like to thank all supporters who are planning on making the trip to back us this evening.
