Powerful, experienced midfielder who rejoined the Pitmen in May 2012 from fellow Evo-Stik Premier League side Nantwich Town

After being released from Stoke City, where he began his career as a trainee, Dave linked up with Stone Dominoes for the start of the 2000-01 season but left to join Leek Town in January 2001. In 6 years with the club he became a crowd favourite with all-action displays and was rewarded with the captain’s armband in 2005.

After making nearly 300 appearances for Leek, he made his first move to the Pitmen in the summer of 2007 – however the return of FA Trophy winning captain Steve Palmer saw MacPherson lose his place and he left to join Witton after just 13 appearances. His new side would miss out on promotion for a second successive year on the final day of the league season, to Rob Smith’s AFC Telford United.
The summer of 2009 saw MacPherson continue his Staffordshire non-league tour with a move to Stafford Rangers but, after a bright start to his time at Marston Road, he was one of the first causalities of the club’s financial problems and saw his contract cancelled in December 2008. A week later he would rejoin Leek, but was to make only two appearances on his return before Nantwich Town put in seven days’ notice for him in January 2009.

He took his first steps into management in the summer of 2010, rejoining Witton as player/assistant manager to Paul Ogden – who had been appointed manager the previous week. On the pitch, MacPherson would enjoy an excellent season, scoring 14 goals from midfield.

In the summer of 2011 he requested a move away from the club, looking to join a side closer to his Staffordshire home. Eventually he was snapped up by Newcastle Town before the start of the season, where he weighed in with a number of goals – including 4 in their FA Cup win over Studley in September 2011. Nantwich would come calling again the following month and another excellent season in midfield culminated in him lifting the Cheshire Senior Cup with a 1-0 victory over Stalybridge.

Macpherson returned to Hednesford in summer 2012 and played a crucial role in midfield as they finally achieved their promotion goal, weighing in both with his no-nonsense tackling and some crucial goals
