Prolific goalscorer who joined the Pitmen from Evo-Stik Northern Premier rivals Nantwich Town in May 2012

Michael’s football career began as a trainee at Middlesbrough before he made the move to the North Midlands to take up a teaching position. After spells at Conwy United, Colwyn Bay and Spennymoor United, he joined North West Counties Football League side Newcastle Town in the summer of 2001. In his his seasons at the Lyme Valley Stadium he scored goals at a rapid rate, including 33 scored in the 2005-06 campaign.

This run of goalscoring form attracted the attention of teams higher up the pyramid with local rivals Kidsgrove Athletic signing the striker in the summer of 2006 where, alongside Matt Rhead, he scored an incredible 51 goals in his first season at the club. Another 22 followed in 2007-08 and led to him joining Nantwich in the summer of 2008 and despite a slow start to the season he finished as the club and league’s top goalscorer. This achievement was followed up by being named Nantwich’s player of the year, an accolade he would go on to repeat the following season.
After four goal-filled seasons he came up against the Pitmen in January 2012 looking to reach the landmark of 100 goals for the club, a feat he achieved with a first half goal. He finished the 2011-12 season as the club’s top scorer yet again, scoring the winner against Stalybridge Celtic in the Cheshire Senior Cup final.

After making the move to Keys Park in May 2012, he found himself on the bench as Harvey and Rey were very much the favoured partnership in the early stages of the season. The goalscoring and star performances came at the business end of the campaign, as he grabbed six goals and a number of assists in the final ten games, including the Goal of The Season away at Buxton, to seal Hednesford’s promotion to the Conference North.
