Player Profile (PITMENWEB.COM)

A long term target for the Pitmen who finally joined the club from Vanarama National League side Kidderminster Harriers in July 2015

Ghana born but raised in Walsall, Obeng caught the eye as a teenager in local football and turned out in the Midland Alliance for the now defunct Bloxwich Town in 2009-2010. In the summer of 2010 he made the short hop across town to link up with Rushall, where he was to carve out a reputation as a pacy, clinical finisher whist with the Pics

After making is debut in September 2010 against Glapwell, Obeng notched nine goals after mainly being used as a substitute during his first season, as the Pics won promotion to the Evo-Stik Premier League for the first time in their history. 2011-2012 saw him really come to the fore by top scoring with nineteen goals in the Pics first ever season at step three, alerting a number of clubs higher up the pyramid. He scored twice against the Pitmen, marking him a future target for manager Rob Smith

The 2012-2013 season saw Obeng paired up with former Stafford Rangers marksman Dave Walker in a classic ‘big man little man’ combination. The pair plundered goals at a rapid rate, as Obeng scored nineteen and Walker over thirty as Rushall just fell short of a shock place in the end of season play-offs

The summer of 2013 saw Obeng go out on trial to skybet Championship side Birmingham City for two weeks, before returning to Rushall at the start of the 2013-2014 campaign. Rushall were once again consistent, but failed to break into that top five once again with a seventh placed finish

The summer of 2014 saw Obeng in much demand, with a number of Vanarama Conference Premier and Conference North sides taking a closer look at the pacy youngster. Kidderminster eventually won the race to sign Obeng, handing over an undisclosed fee to Rushall for the player’s services in May 2014

His 2014-2015 season was one of frustration at Aggborough, as starts were rare in a stuttering, ever-changing Harriers line-up as Kiddy struggled with financial issues. He was, however, one of a handful of players to be named as retained by the club in May 2015, despite interest from other clubs

In July 2015, it was announced the Obeng would finally link up with the Pitmen after Kidderminster had agreed to allow the striker to make the move to Keys Park to add a different dimension to the Pitmen’s attack for the forthcoming season
