Player Profile (PITMENWEB.COM)
Winger-cum-striker who joined the Pitmen in June 2015 following a successful season in front of goal for league rivals Stalybridge Celtic
A former junior at hometown club Stockport County, Ennis worked his way through the junior ranks before being released due to budget cuts in 2008. However, after remaining at the club to continue training, he was re-signed the following season, with the teenager making two substitute appearances for the struggling Hatters as well as spending a loan period at local side Salford City
After being release by Stockport for a second time in May 2009, Ennis spent two months on trial at Wrexham, playing in a number of friendly games for the Red Dragons before eventually linking up with Stalybridge Celtic for the first time in September 2009. He spent much of his time at Bower Fold on the bench, leaving in November 2009 after eleven games to join Welsh Premier League side Bala Town
He failed to make a first team appearance for Bala in two months at the club, returning to Stalybridge for a short spell in March 2010. He returned to Bala for a more successful period in the summer, making fifteen appearances before returning to England to join struggling Droylsden in February 2011. It was a short stay for Ennis at the butcher’s Arms, as he moved to Cheadle Town just three weeks later. He was on the move once again later that month, joining Witton Albion for the final two months of the 2010-2011 season
The summer of 2011 saw Ennis join Witton’s local rivals Northwich Victoria, signing a deal with the Vics after a successful trial. Playing alongside future Hednesford stars John Disney, Nathan Woolfe, Sam Barnes and Wayne Riley, Ennis managed three goals in twelve starts and also spent a short spell at feeder club Northwich Villa in February 2012
After Northwich fell into their much-publicised financial problems towards the end of the 2011-2012 season, Ennis made the switch back to North Wales to join Blue Square North side Colwyn Bay. A serious knee injury was to put paid to his 2012-2013 campaign however, as the player was ruled out for a long spell after having surgery. He impressed at the start of the following season, convincing league rivals Guiseley to take a punt on the diminutive player in September 2012
His stay at Nethermoor was another short stint – only two months – before he returned to Stalybridge Celtic for a third spell. After starting many of his early games as a substitute, Ennis came to the fore towards the end of the season, scoring goals as full-time Celtic ended up just above the relegation spots with a nineteenth placed finish
After agreeing a deal for the new season, Ennis was more prolific in front of goal with a much-needed run in the first team. He finished another difficult season for Celtic as their top scorer as Liam Watson steered them away from the drop courtesy of a win on the final day of the Vanarama Conference North season
In June 2015, he was unveiled as Hednesford’s latest signing of the summer, joining the club to once again link up with Disney in the revamped Pitmen squad
