Experienced left back who joined the Pitmen from local rivals Tamworth in June 2015

After starting his career at hometown club Leamington, he joined Midland Alliance side Stratford Town in the summer of 2010. Impressive performances for Town saw James earned a dream move to Coca Cola Championship side Watford in August 2011 after a successful trial period. His deal was extended further during the season, although James was limited to just one appearance for the Hornets, coming on as a substitute in an F.A. Cup tie against Bradford City

After being released by Watford in June 2012, he returned his native Midlands to join Nuneaton Town, where he spent a frustrating season in and out of Kevin Wilkin’s side and played in a number of unfamiliar positions. He rejoined Leamington on a month’s loan in January 2013 in a bid to get much-needed match time under his belt

Despite offers from clubs at step two and three, James made the surprise move down to step four in October 2013, ending his Nuneaton spell with a move to big spending Southern League Division One Central side Daventry Town. With the benefit of playing week after week for the first time in his career, James impressed as Daventry lost in the Southern League play-off semi-final to local rivals Kettering but claimed the Hillier Cup at the end of the 2013-2014 season

James made the step back up into the higher reaches of non-league football in June 2014 as he joined recently relegated Vanarama Conference North side Tamworth, reuniting him with a number of his ex-Nuneaton team-mates who had made the short move to the Lamb. After a slow start to life at Tamworth, James was introduced into the side in October and remained a fixture in the team for the remainder of the season as Tamworth narrowly missed out on a place in the play-offs

In June 2015, he chose to leave Tamworth after he was not offered a new contract, alongside the experienced Jon Adams and a number of other key players. With Darren Campion’s departure from Hednesford, James jumped at the chance to become the Pitmen’s new left back and signed a one year deal with the Pitmen alongside former team-mate Adams
